Why P3 Israel?

A personal perspective

Barrett Shaw

“At 17 years old I had the amazing opportunity to visit Israel on a high-school trip. I immediately fell in love with the people the culture and the history of Israel. My passion for Israel has only continued to grow—the friends I have made and the experiences I've had there are the most cherished I have.”

Like many others, I visited Israel and fell in love with the land and it’s rich history. But more than that, the people I encountered were some of the most caring individuals I have ever met and I now consider them family. I am involved with P3 Israel because they are actually in the communities working alongside the Israeli people with tangible results.

I’m volunteering for P3 Israel because I value the people and the land of Israel and I know they matter to God.

P3 gives us opportunities to really connect with the people too bless, serve and support them. The friends I have made there have become my family now!

I made my first trip to Israel in 1986. It was during my visit to Masada that I was overcome with emotion and realized the deeper meaning and importance in “Masada shall not fall again”. Supporting Israel is a passion and mission of mine. Eretz Yisrael is a place filled with history, religion, archeology, politics, innovation, and technology. But most importantly, it is my ancestral homeland, and one day, I WILL make Aliyah.

P3 Israel enables me to be actively involved in connecting people and creating partnerships between people and communities in the U.S. and Israel. One thing that separates P3 Israel from most other Israel related nonprofits, is that we actually spend time in Israel, boots on the ground, doing work and building bridges between our two great nations. Israel has no greater friend than the U.S. and the U.S. has no greater friend than Israel.

As Israelis we are moved and inspired by P3’s efforts in recruiting volunteers to help Israel where needed. Billy and LeaAnn, Barry and Connie – our co-founders epitomize the Jewish spirit of “Tikun Olam.”

What we like about P3 Israel is not only its dedication to providing support wherever it can, not just a focus on “giving money,” but building genuine, strong and lasting relationships between people and communities in Israel and the United States. Adapting the philosophy of providing “boots on the ground” – enables us to build teams of people from all walks of life and all faiths, who have a heart for Israel and make a real impact on the lives of its people.

By partnering with communities and experienced organizations we can provide help where most needed. We don’t want to “invent the wheel” and become “just” another charity or non-for-profit. We want to make an impact and can best do this by partnering with those already involved, on the ground, in Israel.

Working side by side with the people we are supporting, in Israel, in their communities, in homes enables us to better their lives and build strong, long lasting and meaningful relationships.

Israel has a history unique among the the nations; it is filled with unimaginable difficulties and pain. Even today, she is the only nation surrounded by those who would do her harm. I wanted to show the people of Israel, all of them, that Israel does have friends, perhaps more than they realize, and that they are not alone. Through P3 Israel, I have a practical way to express that support through serving others, and develop personal friendships in the process!

I enjoy volunteering with P3 Israel because it gives me opportunity to demonstrate my love and support for the people and the land of Israel. Not only do I get to put action to words in serving them, I get to make lasting friendships.
